He stared at the microphone. The microphone stared back.

Too weird
to leave.
A basement open mic, a leftover banana, and a cat who never asked to be funny.
Somebody taped him to a banana in the back of the club. The crowd thought it was a joke. He waited for someone to explain it.
The silence went on so long that everyone laughed. He took the mic the next night.
No rooftop. No grand prophecy. Just a tiny stage, a dressing room with a broken mirror, and the last train home. The pause is the punchline.
